What to see (do) in New Zealand
New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses North Island, South Island and numerous smaller islands. North Island is very beautiful and there is a lot what to see. You can arrive to Auckland. It is a really big city and you should spend there a few days. Remember that it will be a little bit expensive. In Auckland you can rent a car; the price is around 20$/per day or when you are there on working holiday visa you can buy a car on car fair which is on Saturday and Sunday. The other way is to book a bus ticket. There are two bus companies; one is naked bus and second one is intercity.
From Auckland you should explore northland before you go to the south. Spend a few days in Kerikeri. It is a small town just 4 hours ride from Auckland where you have to visit rainbow falls.
If you are in Kerikeri, from there is a short way to Paihia where you can take a boat and visit Russell.
If you like hot water, you should visit Ngawha Springs hot pools in Kaikohe. It is not really far from Kerikeri. There is different temperature of water in every pool.
When you leave KeriKeri and on the way to the north, first what you need to see is ninety mile beach. In the ninety mile beach you can drive the whole beach with your car but be careful because you can stuck easily there. From there you need to visit the northeast part of the north island called Cape Reinga. Cape Reinga is really famous because the Pacific Ocean is meeting here with the Tasman Sea.
I traveled from northland and I am back in Auckland again. After a long journey I stayed for one night in Auckland. On the other day I traveled from Auckland to the south of the north island and I stopped in Hot Water Beach. Hot Water Beach is a beach on Mercury Bay on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand, approximately 12 kilometers south east of Whitianga, and approximately 175 kilometers from Auckland by car.
From there is really close the town Katikati where I slept and where I visited the Waihi Beach just 15 minutes from Katikati
From Katikati it is only a 30 minutes ride to the nearest town Tauranga. It is a really nice city and I spend there a few days. You can visit mount Maunganui. It is very beautiful. Many people try to learn to surf there.
From Tauranga you can visit Rotorua but before you will go there, first you need to visit Hobbiton. It is only 30 min by car from Tauranga. You will arrive to Matamata where you can book your tour. Then you can continue to Rotorua where you can do a lot of things and also you can visit the famous Mauri Village.
Then you need to visit other famous lake Taupo where is a lot of what to do for example you can skydive.
Really close to Lake Taupo is national park Tongariro crossing. It is the most beautiful and famous crossing here in New Zealand. You can cross from one side to the other and the hike is around 7 hours but you definitely need to do it and dont forget to climb to a volcano where you will feel like you are above the sky.
After Tongariro crossing you can go to Wellington witch is the capital city of New Zealand and from there you can easily take a ferry to the south island. The price for ferry to the south island is around 175$ with car and around 55$ just as a person.
